Spain: a Dutch Tourist Rescued After 18 Days in a ravine
|
On Wednesday 6th of July 2011, some rescuers saved a 48 year old Dutch tourist who had just spent 18 days trapped in a ravine in southern Spain.
That woman, Mary-Anne Goossens, was uninjured after the incident but she survived by drinking only water without food.
Antonio Diaz, the spokesman of the family declared that the woman was walking by the side of the river before she was mysteriously discovered to be lost some few moments later.
|
In a statement, the civil guard said that she was trapped in a very deep hole, without a rope or any rescuing equipment, and that was really in a desperate situation
It was on Wednesday that the Dutch tourist was discovered by some walkers near Nerja, a coastal town in the province of Malaga and she was fortunately evacuated by helicopter. The rescuers sent that woman to the hospital and the medical staff found the woman was stable and in perfect good health. She is conscious and she can talk normally as usual. Following further medical procedures, that woman can leave hospital the following day on Thursday.
The hiker went to Nerja for holiday on the 15th of June but she was reported lost by her son several days later according to the civil guard. The woman was surprised by the night as she walked near the coastal river of Chillar, said the spokesman for the family. After spending the night outside, "she found a place where there was water, and remained there," a hole in the river, he added. For 18 days she did not eat but drank water, said the Civil Guard. The rescue, said the Civil Guard, an operation was "difficult" because of the depth of the water and "the weakness" which was the tourist. However, it "suffered no significant injury."
Auto Club: advice for the road vacation

Advice prior to departure on holiday, it's like the safety in air: no one is paying attention. Yet the track could save you a lot of problems ...
We are already within the days of July and we are preparing to take a driving holiday, according to the unchanging ritual summer. In preparation for the transhumance, the Automobile Club takes care to give some tips to avoid car travel becomes a nightmare.
|
The first of them concern the preparation of the vehicle. The Automobile Club recommends you to review your mount before departure. On the previous day check the fluid levels and tire pressure. It is also an opportunity to monitor the status of the windshield: it would be unfortunate if your windshield broke on the highway through the fault of a brightness too often neglected.
The Automobile Club then recommended to properly preparing your itinerary. Choose your departure time to avoid traffic jams and prepare in advance the GPS to avoid many troubles. Another recommendation of common sense: treat loading your car. It is therefore necessary to place heavy objects as low as possible. Also avoid placing objects on the rear: in case of impact, they can become dangerous projectiles.
On motorways, the Automobile Club recalls a rule that too many drivers forget: the middle way is not the royal road. The Highway Code requires that you drive on the right lane and use the others to overcome. The agency finally recalls that drowsiness is the primary cause of a fatal accident on the motorway. It therefore recommends that once you have started from rest, take other breaks regularly. Of course, after critically reading the recommendations, you probably have a vague feeling of "already read". The question arises, however: do you use these instructions?
